Name: T. Pookie ESL teacher What: Class name memorise
Why: A month ago I’ve been transferred to Key stage 1 to teach 2nd graders. I’ve been assigned to responsible two classes, 30 students each class. I have difficulty to memorise students name in my new class. The student has got excited to meet the new teacher and expect the teacher to call their name for the questions and answered game. Unfortunately, I have mistaken their names to the other and require student to repeat their name more than once during 90 minutes class period, therefore, student started to doubt their respect toward teacher which is annoying to both teacher and learners.
As a teacher, to recognise student names thoroughly during doing class activity is essential because student tend to be easier to convince and willingly to follow tasks when being assign to enact in the class.
At first, I presumed I am the only person struggling with the names as I am a new teacher to the key stage 1, yet, other teachers suffer the same botheration.
How: I’ve have tried different demonstration through class activity such as the Break the Ice session or attempt to call out students’ name to answer the questions. I believe that repetition the name is an effective approach to students in order to build the bond between student and teacher.
During the 2nd graders stage meeting, math teachers have proposed a new method to simplify name memorising by using name tag on the table of each student for teacher to familiarise which I assent with the math teacher as well.
